Peter Garety Blogging - WTF? Are You Sick?

peter garety with david eisner

Yeah, I know. It is hard to believe. Last time I published a blog post on my self-hosted - Blogging Mechanics blog, was January 2012. A lot of things have changed since then.

First of all, my English is getting better…yeah, you will still see me making mistakes (like, I am constantly looking - should I use 'than' or 'than' - it just never sticks with me )…

Secondly, I have launched a few products and I am building my software development and publishing company and it works great. So, things are really good.

Now, question you might have is this - why BLOGGER? Why not Wordpress - a self-hosted blog? Why blogging - it doesn't make you money (I think +Ryan Deiss was clear about it during his last launch…)

Well, there a few reasons…

(this part is important - I want to inspire you to do the same - so, please pay attention)...

Reason #1 - Blogging Is Not About Money - EVER

I do not aim to make money from blogging…

In fact, I think that most people misuse the word - blogging. It has never been about money and even people who say they make money via blogging are really running websites.

Blogging is about expressing your own ideas - writing them down and publishing them. It is your OWN social platform.

It is never about money. It can merely be about +Branding

So, I do not care about making money from this - I just want to share my content with you.

Reason #2 - Blogger = Speed

I use +Gmail, which means that I am logged into my +Google Account. And that gives me instant access to blogger, so I can quickly post something without thinking too much.

I can do it in seconds and that is why it is awesome.

You see, I could use Facebook - but who really reads something on Facebook?

You look at the newsfeed and it is busy with bunch of interesting stuff, so attention rate to longer content like this is super low.

Therefore, I needed a platform, which can be easy, fast - but, where I can frame my content and post it in a way, so people can costume it without distraction.

Reason #3 - Simplicity

I have a team of programmers, designers and content managers - so I could quickly setup a self-hosted Wordpress blog and work there.

But, it is complicated - I have to involve so many people + I need to host that thing, update it - install plugins and watch +Matt Cutts videos to keep up with SEO to get traffic and so on and so fort.

Now, don't get me wrong. I love +WordPress as a website platform. I use it for almost ALL my websites.

But, when it comes to personal stuff like this, I just want to write something that is in my mind without thinking too much about technical things.

Reason #4 - Community

As I recently discovered there are super incredible +Blogger community - people who share their ideas without focusing on money or anything like that.

With Blogger it is easy to share my content via Google+ and instantly attract different communities and that is exactly what I want - giving out my content, so the right people can enjoy and benefit from it.

This is pretty much it.

If you will follow this blog, will subscribe to RSS feed - you will just get pure content - amazing content, that can change a lot for you.

Until the next time,
- Peter
